Be Good to Yourself

You cannot be good to people if you are not good to yourself. Start with yourself today. Do yourself a favor, stop being angry with yourself, no matter how stupid you feel sometimes. These feelings are temporary, and you really cannot be angry with yourself forever. You must make yourself available for other people; make it a daily goal to make someone other than yourself happy. Wake up with the intention to make someone you do not know happy.

And smile!

Just smile more. Like breathing, smiling is free, you can do it right now, and the reward is instant. Smiling releases happy chemicals in the brain and make you feel better. Fake it until you make it. Better yet, try smiling to strangers in the street. Getting someone smiling back at you will make you smile. Even if you are faking it. It does not take much practice. Humans are wired that way!

At the end, never stop trying new ways to find your inner peace. Practice meditation, ten minutes a day is not too much and the benefits are tremendous. Stop disturbing yourself especially when there is no legitimate reason for doing so. Laugh more and avoid unnecessary drama.

Life seeks life.

Five Rules to Abide By

  • Say No:

If you are concerned about how the teacher mistreated your co-worker’s daughter, you do not have to be. It is not illegal to cut negative people from your life, even if those were family members. Strive to surround yourself with positive people who will add value to you, instead of keeping up with someone or something that you do not genuinely care about.

  • Be Forgiving:

How old are you? Chance are deep inside your unconscious mind you still hold a grudge for a high school friend who ate your sandwich without your permission. You would be surprised that you can find yourself angry with someone who is long gone from your life. Search for those hidden grudges and forgive those who hurt you in the past. Dwelling much?

  • The Universe is not out to get you:

In fact, the universe is not interested in you in a neither negative nor positive way. The universe is, and you are. If it looks like there is a cosmic conspiracy against you, trust that it is all in your mind. In line with forgiveness, learn to accept things as they are and work to change them for yourself. No one is out to get you, unless explicitly stated. You have no reason to worry about anything that is out of your direct control. Stop blaming everyone and everything for your problems.

  • Be Grateful:

There is a good chance that there are a few things in life going your way, remember those. A good practice is starting to write those things your grateful for, do not just think about, and write them down. Create a list of the good things in your life, and feel grateful and “lucky” that you got what you go. You will see the list grow quickly, and whenever you feel down, go read that list and remember to be grateful. Doing that will replace negative feelings with optimism.

  • Do not Envy:

I get it, you are human, and you cannot help but be envious. You can control your envy because it is a major roadblock for inner peace. It is good to desire a faster car, a beautiful wife, bigger house, but obsessing about them and feeling bitter towards who have them is no way of living. Did we mention turning off the TV, reducing Facebook consumption, and stopping gossip?

Three Steps to Mindfulness and Peace

  • Be here, now:

Beneath all of the stress, anxiety, and frantic rushing through life, you will find inner peace. You just have to take notice. It is deceptively simple because it has always been there waiting for you patiently to find it. Even starring you in the eyes, but you fail to take notice every time. Just stop, and try to get in touch, sure peace will reach out when you call upon it.

  • Deep Breaths:

Yes, just breathe. You are breathing right now, but are you paying attention to your breathing? Remember to take deep breaths during the day, and especially in time of stress. It is magical, relaxing, and will cost you nothing. Deep breaths help you relax and increase oxygen intake. Just remember to do it consciously and consistently.

  • Throw Away the TV:

Some people use TV to take their minds off what is going on their lives but they are doing it backwards. While TV might help you relax, it fills your mind with useless, harmful information. Trust me; you will be better without knowing that some country on the other side of the world had an earthquake. You will be just fine without watching entire season of Game of Thrones back to back. Do not be used by mass media.
